When I first heard about Reiki, I went online to “do my research”. I found so much information that I felt overwhelmed. Some of it was clear, some was very confusing. I decided to stop, and wait.
One day, I was browsing around a book store. As I passed by the medical section, I noticed one book that said REIKI on the spine. I thought to myself, what is this book doing in the medical section? Out of curiosity, I grabbed the book and glanced at the cover, then looked through it. I knew immediately that this was the book I was looking for. It seemed very straightforward and easy to read. So, I bought it and read it from cover to cover in a matter of days. I found out that the author of this book is in NYC. The book was: REIKI: A Comprehensive Guide written by Reiki Master Pamela Miles. I was so excited because I felt that I had finally found my teacher. Soon after, I signed up for Pamela’s First Degree Reiki training. It changed my life for the better. A few years later I signed up for the Second Degree Reiki training as well.
This was back in 2011. I’ve been practicing Reiki ever since. If you are interested in becoming a Reiki practitioner, wether it’s just for yourself and family, or for professional practice, I highly recommend training with Pamela Miles. Her teaching style is very straightforward, professional, clear, down to earth.
It’s not easy to find a good Reiki teacher/Master. If you find a teacher that you’d like to train with but they aren’t in your town/city, contact them. They may consider coming to your city to teach. Please ask them if they do daily Self-practice. If they don’t, you may want to reconsider training with them. Daily Reiki self-practice is the foundation to an effective Reiki practice, to the healing and balance that it brings. If an in-person class is not possible, that’s ok. With the technology available today, many teachers do video conference classes online.
I personally prefer to learn in person. To me, there is just no substitute to physically being present in the same room with a teacher and other classmates, where you can ask questions, you can learn from the questions that your classmates ask, and from their stories, not to mention the community that forms from a class. But this is my personal preference and you may feel differently, which is perfect. Do what works best for you. I did, and I am grateful.
And who knows, someday in the near future, I may be teaching.
